I spent 9 days at Talitali'anga Eco Resort in september 2015 and loved it. So much so that I have already booked another week for 2016!
Talitali’anga is a “one stop” shop in Tonga as they also organise trips to swim with the whales. As a matter of fact, that’s how I met Kristen and Craig in 2014 when I booked 17 days on the boat with them. I was very impressed by their work and respect for the whales, which is why I chose to join them again in 2015.
In 2014 the resort was in the process of being built so we could not stay there. I knew what their plan was, but wasn’t sure what to expect at the end, as they are literally on the beach on a remote island. Well, everything ended up being beyond my expectations. It was so great that I cannot decide what I loved the most. I loved being on that stunning, secluded island. I loved my unit and its beachfront location. I loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves. I loved the sunsets and the stunning view on the volcano. I loved having breakfast while spotting the whales... I loved the food, which was so fresh, so delicious, and so beautifully presented. And I was really impressed about the fact that the resort is built in an Eco friendly way. They are using solar panels and composting toilets and the units design/set up means that they are not invasive in the environment and can be removed. The other great thing is that they have a little vegetable garden, so every day we had fresh salads, which believe me, is a bit of a luxury in a place like Tonga. And to top everything up, we had a great time on the boat, observing many whales every day.
A big thank you to Kristen and Craig for such a lovely stay and for looking after us so well. See you next year!

We were lucky enough to have 10 fabulous days as the first guests at Talitalianga Eco Resort in Ha'apai the new shore base of Ha'apai Whale and Sail. With golden sandy beaches and gin clear water the location on Uoleva Island is stunning. The tented accomodation is real luxury, with a super comfy bed and lovely linen and towels. Great hot water shower in the separate "bath" room.
Meals are provided and are well priced and there is always a choice of 3 mains and a desert each night -all from fresh local produce, so good it was hard to choose! Explore the island, curl up in a hammock with a book or get out on the water for a fabulous experience swimming with the humpback whales. Hosts Craig and Kristen have established a real haven.

To be honest I was sort of in a hurry, trying to get the details of a rather complicated trip nailed down, I heard about Talitali'anga and the island by accident. And to be more honest, an eco-lodge made me wonder a but , HOWEVER it could not have been better! It is a wondefful place, a cosy and very comfortable plush tent with an "all-to-yourself" feel, with a bed looking out onto one of the most beautiful, untouched beaches in the world (really). Dont let the words tent and eco-lodge, disuade you at all. The tent and bed could not be more comfortable, HOT water and full pressure. The food was superb; generous and healthy choices. It is a a bargain. We loved it and after going to Va va'u REALLY appreciated what a piece of heaven we had in Ha 'appai ! You wont be sorry.
